Olympic Stadium Infrared Roof Assessment
Aerial infrared inspection support conducted prior to the Olympic Stadium roof replacement redevelopment project.
Project Overview
Prior to the launch of the Olympic Stadium roof replacement redevelopment project, ISeeIt.ca was contracted to perform a comprehensive aerial infrared assessment of the existing roofing system.
Using drone-mounted thermal imaging technology, our team captured high-resolution infrared data across the full roof structure to help document existing conditions before construction activities began.
The aerial workflow allowed for efficient large-scale thermal coverage while minimizing operational disruption and reducing the complexity associated with traditional manual inspection methods.
The Challenge
The Olympic Stadium roof presented several operational and technical complexities requiring a carefully planned aerial inspection approach.
Extremely large roof surface area
Complex geometry and elevation changes
Restricted access zones
Urban flight environment
Requirement for complete thermal coverage
Need for accurate and repeatable imaging data
Traditional inspection methods would have required extensive manual access procedures, increased project timelines, and introduced additional safety considerations.
Our Approach
ISeeIt.ca developed a customized aerial imaging strategy designed specifically for the structure and surrounding operational environment.
Using advanced drone platforms equipped with calibrated thermal imaging sensors, multiple coordinated flight operations were conducted to systematically capture infrared data across the entire roofing system.
The thermal assessment focused on identifying:
Areas of trapped moisture
Thermal inconsistencies
Potential insulation deficiencies
Water intrusion indicators
Roofing system deterioration
Anomalies requiring further evaluation
Thermal data collection was performed under environmental conditions optimized for infrared roof analysis to maximize accuracy and reliability.
Results
The aerial infrared inspection successfully delivered complete thermal coverage of the Olympic Stadium roof while significantly reducing the time, risk, and logistical complexity associated with conventional inspection methods.
The project demonstrated the effectiveness of drone-based thermal imaging for large-scale infrastructure assessments, particularly on complex and difficult-to-access structures requiring accurate, high-resolution aerial data.
